Voyager 1 was built in a Dutch shipyard in 1987 to exacting standards, for a Dutch sailing school to sail North of the Arctic Circle, is incredibly strong and well insulated, and has been in Irish ownership for 20 years, cruising Irish coastal waters, the UK, and Biscay. Her internal joinery is top class shipwright installed, with extensive storage and locker space. She is a fractional sloop rigged with heavy duty aluminium mast and boom.
She has undergone major upgrades and refitting of electronics, navigation, and rigging in recent years. She has full teak deck and cockpit, pedestal wheel steering, and a 33hp Vetus Mitsubishi diesel engine, which runs as smoothly as they day it was installed. Deck hatches were replaced in 2019 and steel hull upgrades were undertaken in 2021 – all steel plate less than 3.7mm was professionally replaced, to compliment her full sandblast and re-epoxy in 2019. Further enhancements include a new-P-Bracket, Deep Sea Seal, with all standing and running rigging professionally replaced by Harry Lewis in 2019 also, Lazyjacks fitted for ease of dropping mainsail, and Harken roller reefing making for ease of genoa deployment and furling.
She boasts brand new large screen Garmin GPS and repeater, Eberspacher diesel/electric central heating, newly wired smart charging and shore power loom, has been extensively yarded for upgrades, and includes an aft deck large weatherproof canopy enclosure (Marshall Fabrics), wind generator, and Hydrovane wind steering vane for short-handed passages.
